OUR DEACONS

The Deacons of MBC are here to serve the Lord by serving our church family.

We look to 1 Timothy 3:8-13 as we consider men from among our fellowship for this great responsibility. The Scriptures show that deacons assist in the spiritual oversight of the congregation. 

Our deacons are responsible for three key areas of oversight.

Leadership

Assisting the pastor in the oversight of the various ministries of the church.

Discipleship

In order to make disciples as Scripture commands in Matthew 28:18-20, we must first be disciples of Jesus Christ, by becoming worshippers of God, servants of others, and witnesses to the Gospel of Christ, who gladly seek, encourage, and equip others to do the same.

Care

Meeting the various needs of the families in our congregation, and organizing efforts to help the congregation meet the needs of one another.

Todd
Anderson

Todd has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1992, and has served as a deacon from 1999-2004, and from 2007-present.  He is blessed with his wife Heather, and 5 children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 1 grandchild.  Todd works as a district manager for Meijer. He serves our church body as the financial secretary.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Todd is Proverbs 21:1 - “the King’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord, He turns it wherever He wishes.” Todd is thankful that God loves him enough to refine him, through earthly circumstances, to become more like Christ.  God is working ALL things together for our good and for His glory.

Greg
Bernard

Greg has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1986, and has served as a deacon off and on through those years. Currently he's served since 2012.  He is blessed with his wife Connie, 6 children, and 3 grandchildren. Greg works for the City of Columbus.  He serves our church by overseeing the building and grounds. A passage of Scripture that encourages Greg is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.” This passage helps Greg stay grounded in the Word of God and relying on the wisdom of God instead of his own wisdom.

Andrew
Hays

Andy has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2015 and has served as deacons since 2019. He is blessed with his wife Erin and 4 children. Andy works for the City of Marysville as a Firefighter and Paramedic. Andy serves our church body by leading the outreach and men's basketball ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Andy is Ephesians 2: 8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith.  And this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Much of Andy’s life, he believed that he had to earn his salvation and right standing with God.  This passage was one of the first to make it clear to him that salvation is solely a gift from God and not about good works.  He realized that this is possible only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Bob
Koncsol

Bob has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1969, and has served as a deacon off and on since the 1980's. He is blessed with his wife Cheryl, 2 daughters, and 10 grandchildren. Bob and Cheryl own his own heating and A/C company. Bob serves our church body as the communion deacon. A passage of Scripture that encourages Bob is Psalm 51:10 which states “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” It is God alone that both creates a clean heart in us, and renews a steadfast spirit. None of this is about us; it is all God’s doing.

Jon
Jennings

Jon has been worshiping at Maranatha since 1995 and has served as a deacon since 2020. He is blessed with his wife, Judi, and 4 children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 3 grandkids. Jon works as a director of marketing at EWI. He serves our church body in the Community Outreach ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Jon is 2 Corinthians 5:17 & 20, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come…Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us…” These verses remind him that through Christ, he is a new creature, no longer bound to his past. He is now an ambassador of the God who saved him, and he needs to walk in a manner worthy of his calling. 

Jesse
Hill

Jesse Hill has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2016, and has served as deacon since 2019.  He is blessed with his wife Stephanie and their five children.  Jesse works for an area fire department and he and Stephanie operate a home remodeling company.  Jesse serves our church by overseeing our facilities. One of Jesse's favorite passages is Galatians 2:20 ("I am crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.") because it is a joyful reminder of how his sin debt was nailed to the cross and now the Spirit desires to live the life of Christ through him.

Thad
King

Thad has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1991, and has served as a deacon since 2010.  He is blessed with his wife Belinda, 4 children, and 3 grandchildren. Thad works as a sign designer and engineer. He serves our church body as the fellowship (party) deacon, and assistant to the financial secretary. A passage of Scripture that encourages Thad is Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” The life that Thad lives is a representation of Christ to the world. Thad can only accomplish this through Christ’s power, with a grateful heart, and the understanding of Christ’s sacrifice for him.

Jack
MacKeverican

Jack has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1988, and has served as a deacon since 1990.  He is blessed with his wife Grace, 5 children, and 9 grandchildren. Jack works as a market manager for Armstrong Flooring.  He serves our church body as the vice chairman of the deacon board. He also oversees membership and is part of the missions committee.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Jack is Jeremiah 29:11 which states “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.  Jack’s first wife was diagnosed with incurable cancer at age 29. God used this verse, His Word, and godly people to help him through this difficult time. After her death, Jack knew God had a plan for his future.  Within a year, God provided his wife Grace. God is good all the time!

Andy
Manwiller

Andy has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2009 and has served as deacon since 2019. He is blessed with his wife, Angela and four children: Caleb, Ethan, Nathan, and Joanna. Andy works at Nationwide Insurance as a Lean Maturity Specialist. He serves our church body by overseeing the men's ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Andy is Colossians 2:6, 7 which states "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." This is a reminder to live out the relationship with God that we have been graciously given. This is done by centering our lives around Him and being full of thanks in everything that God brings our way.

Brian
Napp

Brian has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2011, and has served as a deacon since 2017. He is blessed with his wife Carol. Brian works as a CPA for a privately-owned real estate firm. He serves our church body by leading the welcome team. A passage of Scripture that encourages Brian is Colossians 1:13-18, which ends with “And He is before all things, and by him all things consist. And He is the head of the body ..... that in all things He might have the preeminence.” This helps remind Brian that it is through Christ that he exist and that the purpose of everything he does should be to glorify Christ.

Tom
Perin

Tom has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1980, and has served as a deacon since approximately 2002.  He is blessed with his wife Karen, 5 children, and 5 grandchildren. Tom manages telecommunication product development for Nokia. He serves our church body as the Treasurer.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Tom is Joshua 24:15: “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Our walk with God begins with the basic choice to "serve the Lord".  This verse challenges me to be a leader - to make the ultimate choice and then draw others (starting with my household) to follow and make that same choice. Our conviction to "serve the Lord" is what gives us the strength to endure the hard times, keeps us humble as we celebrate the good times, and allows us to find joy in Christ all the time.

Peter
Simons

Peter has been worshipping at Maranatha for 23 years, and has served as a deacon for 3 years.  He is blessed with his wife Noelle, and 6 children. Peter works as an investment manager. He serves our church body by being the Church Clerk.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Peter is Micah 6:8: “He has told you oh man what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” This passage tells us that we should walk humbly with our God.  The fact that we are able to have a "walk" with the creator of the universe shows His amazing love for us. This verse encourages Peter in his walk with the Lord to humbly strive to know and love Him more.

Nate
Wilson

Nate has been worshiping at Maranatha since 2013 and has served as a deacon since 2020. He is blessed with his wife, Angie and 3 children. Nate works as a Sergeant for the Columbus Division of Police. He serves our church body by assisting with Security and the Youth ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Nate is Philippians 4:8-9, which says “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Tom
Zentz

Tom has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1984 and has served as a deacon from 1993-1995, and 2010-present.  He is blessed with his wife Kari, 6 children, 2 daughters-in-law, 1 son-in-law, and 6 grandchildren. Tom works as a financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial.  He serves our church body by overseeing the support of our missionaries, and is assistant to the Church Clerk, and Financial Secretary. A passage of Scripture that encourages Tom is Lamentations 3:21-26. Though Tom’s soul wandered from Him, the LORD sought Tom out and with tenderness poured His mercy into Tom’s life. Daily, the Lord continues to do so, and Tom loves Him for it.
