OUR DEACONS

The Deacons of MBC are here to serve the Lord by serving our church family.

We look to 1 Timothy 3:8-13 as we consider men from among our fellowship for this great responsibility. The Scriptures show that deacons assist in the spiritual oversight of the congregation.

Our deacons are responsible for three key areas of oversight.

Leadership

Assisting the pastor in the oversight of the various ministries of the church.

Discipleship

In order to make disciples as Scripture commands in Matthew 28:18-20, we must first be disciples of Jesus Christ, by becoming worshippers of God, servants of others, and witnesses to the Gospel of Christ, who gladly seek, encourage, and equip others to do the same.

Care

Meeting the various needs of the families in our congregation, and organizing efforts to help the congregation meet the needs of one another.

Todd
Anderson

Todd has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1992, and has served as a deacon from 1999-2004, and from 2007-present.  He is blessed with his wife Heather, 5 children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 1 grandchild.  Todd works as a district manager for Meijer. He serves our church body as the financial secretary.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Todd is Proverbs 21:1 - “the King’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord, He turns it wherever He wishes.” Todd is thankful that God loves him enough to refine him, through earthly circumstances, to become more like Christ.  God is working ALL things together for our good and for His glory.

Austin
Barreras

Austin has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2016 and has been serving as a deacon since 2021. He is blessed with his wife Melody. Austin works for Human Resources at the Amazon warehouse in West Jefferson. He serves our church by helping lead the Young Adults Ministry and security. Two passages of Scripture that encourage Austin are Luke 1:37 "For nothing will be impossible with God" and Colossians 3:3 "For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." They are a wonderful reminder that God is in control of all things and how much we need to make Christ part of our identity.

Greg
Bernard

Greg has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1986, and has served as a deacon off and on through those years. Currently he's served since 2012.  He is blessed with his wife Connie, 6 children, and 5 grandchildren. Greg works for the City of Columbus.  He serves our church by overseeing the building and grounds. He and Connie are also a part of the marriage ministry at Maranatha. A passage of Scripture that encourages Greg is Proverbs 3:5-6 which says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.” This passage helps Greg stay grounded in the Word of God and rely on the wisdom of God instead of his own wisdom.

Andy
Hays

Andy has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2015 and has served as a deacon since 2019. He is blessed with his wife Erin and 4 children. Andy works for the City of Marysville as a Firefighter and Paramedic. Andy serves our church body by leading the outreach and men's basketball ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Andy is Ephesians 2: 8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith.  And this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”  Much of Andy’s life, he believed that he had to earn his salvation and right standing with God.  This passage was one of the first to make clear to him that salvation is solely a gift from God and not about good works.  He realized that this is possible only through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Jason
Everetts

Jason has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2003 and has served as a deacon since 2021. He and his wife Stacy have been married for 17 years and have 2 children, Mary and Thomas. Jason works in the U.S. District Court as a staff attorney for a federal judge. He serves our church body by overseeing the children's ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Jason is John 8:31-32 – “Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” In a fallen world that is struggling with what is true, right and just, we have a Heavenly Father who is Truth, Righteousness and Justice. He has lovingly revealed Himself in His Word that we might know Him and abide in Him.

Seth
Bernard

Seth has been worshipping at Maranatha his entire life and has been serving as deacon since 2021. He has been married to his wife Joy for 9 years and they have 2 children, Karsyn and Corban. Seth teaches physical education at Stiles Elementary School in South-Western City School District. He serves our church as a youth leader, musician on the worship team and is a small group leader. A passage of Scripture that encourages Seth is Galatians 2:20 because it reminds him of his identity in Christ and the fact that his life is not ultimately about him at all. It is a constant reminder that everything he does and is involved in should point others to Christ and to bring Him glory.

Jesse
Hill

Jesse Hill has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2016, and has served as deacon since 2019.  He is blessed with his wife Stephanie and their five children.  Jesse works for an area fire department and he and Stephanie operate a home remodeling company.  Jesse serves our church by overseeing our facilities. One of Jesse's favorite passages is Galatians 2:20 ("I am crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.") because it is a joyful reminder of how his sin debt was nailed to the cross and now the Spirit desires to live the life of Christ through him.

Jon
Jennings

Jon has been worshiping at Maranatha since 1995 and has served as a deacon since 2020. He is blessed with his wife, Judi, 4 children, 2 daughters-in-law, and 4 grandkids. Jon works as a director of marketing at EWI. He serves our church body in the Community Outreach ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Jon is 2 Corinthians 5:17 & 20, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come…Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us…” These verses remind him that through Christ, he is a new creature, no longer bound to his past. He is now an ambassador of the God who saved him, and he needs to walk in a manner worthy of his calling.

Thad
King

Thad has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1991 and has served as a deacon since 2010.  He is blessed with his wife Belinda, 4 children, and 4 grandchildren. Thad works as a sign designer and engineer. He serves our church body by overseeing the "YES" (senior) ministry and guest services coordinator. A passage of Scripture that encourages Thad is Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” The life that Thad lives is a representation of Christ to the world. Thad can only accomplish this through Christ’s power, with a grateful heart, and the understanding of Christ’s sacrifice for him.

Alex
Kistler

Alex has been worshiping at Maranatha for his entire life and and has been serving as deacon since 2021. He works as a manager for a shipping retailer on the east side of Columbus. He serves our church body by helping lead the young adult’s group and assisting with the youth group. A passage of scripture that encourages Alex is John 1:1-5 because it reminds him that Christ is not just his savior but also his creator and sustainer, He is our light and darkness cannot overcome him.

Jack
MacKeverican

Jack has been worshipping at Maranatha since 1988 and has served as a deacon since 1990.  He is blessed with his wife Grace, 5 children, and 12 grandchildren. Jack works as a market manager for Armstrong Flooring. He serves our church body as the vice chairman of the deacon board. He also oversees membership and is part of the missions committee.  A passage of Scripture that encourages Jack is Jeremiah 29:11 which states “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.  Jack’s first wife was diagnosed with incurable cancer at age 29. God used this verse, His Word, and godly people to help him through this difficult time. After her death, Jack knew God had a plan for his future.  Within a year, God drew Jack and his wife Grace together. They have been happily married for 35 years. God is good all the time!

Andy
Manwiller

Andy has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2009 and has served as deacon since 2019. He is blessed with his wife, Angela and four children: Caleb, Ethan, Nathan, and Joanna. Andy works at Nationwide Insurance as a Trainer. He serves our church body by overseeing the nursery and men's ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Andy is Colossians 2:6, 7 which states "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." This is a reminder to live out the relationship with God that we have been graciously given. This is done by centering our lives around Him and being full of thanks in everything that God brings our way.

Brian
Napp

Brian has been worshipping at Maranatha since 2011, and has served as a deacon since 2017. He is blessed with his wife Carol. Brian works as a CPA for a privately-owned real estate firm. He serves our church body as the treasurer. A passage of Scripture that encourages Brian is Colossians 1:13-18, which ends with “And He is before all things, and by him all things consist. And He is the head of the body ..... that in all things He might have the preeminence.” This helps remind Brian that it is through Christ that he exists and that the purpose of everything he does should be to glorify Christ.

Peter
Simons

Peter has been worshipping at Maranatha for 23 years and has served as a deacon for 3 years.  He is blessed with his wife Noelle, and 6 children. Peter works as an investment manager. He serves our church body by overseeing policies and the youth ministry. A passage of Scripture that encourages Peter is Micah 6:8: “He has told you oh man what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” This passage tells us that we should walk humbly with our God. The fact that we are able to have a "walk" with the creator of the universe shows His amazing love for us. This verse encourages Peter in his walk with the Lord to humbly strive to know and love Him more.
