At Maranatha, the Great Commission is our mission. Everything we teach and everything we do is to obey Jesus’ command Mt 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” The warm Summer months bring extra opportunities to reach into our neighborhoods and make disciples. We are praying that this year, God will open doors for fruitful ministry among the 8,700+ people who live in our surrounding areas of Trabue Woods, Brookhollow, Scioto Woods, and Golfview Woods. Recently, as we’ve gotten to know our community more, we’ve learned that many families have a great interest in sports programs for their children.
With this in mind, our teen summer mission trip will be focused on leading a sports camp, right here at Maranatha. The camp will run for a few hours each morning and evening and will help us connect with new families in our neighborhood. Not only are we looking to build a team of senior high teens to serve on this trip, but we will also need adults from Maranatha who can help with this camp.
The mission trip & sports camp will be July 7-13. The youth will be staying locally in a dorm-like setting, which will allow us to have a singular, unified focus on ministry for the week. It will also allow our leaders to have a significant time of life-on-life discipleship as we pray and worship together in the evenings. During the afternoons, the teens will be serving at various urban ministry locations around Columbus, growing their love for the lost as we seek to serve the least of these.
More details, including applications, projected costs, and training dates will be available at the parent/youth meeting on February 13. All students who are currently in senior high are encouraged to apply as we seek to reach our community with the love of Christ.
